Fake Mustache

Fake Mustache by Tom Angleberger

Tom Angleberger, the mad genius behind such books as Origami Yoda and Horton Halfpott, is back with another fiendishly funny story about...well, a mad genius.  More particularly it is about, as the rest of the lengthy title will tell you, "how Jodie O' Rodeo and her wonder horse (and some nerdy kid) saved the U.S. Presidential election from a mad genius criminal mastermind."

The nerdy kid in question is Lenny Flem Jr.  who, along with his friend, Caspar Bengue, set out for Sven's Fair Price Store where all of the problems begin.  Sven has his eye on the Heidelberg Handlebar Number Seven, an amazing fake mustache at the fair price of $129.99.  As soon as Caspar dons the mustache, strange and criminal events begin to occur around their small town.  In true Angleberger-fashion, no one in the town seems to realize that this new mad genius is a young boy with a fake mustache except for his friend.  Lemmy seems to be alone and outnumbered until he chances upon Jodie O' Rodeo, a young TV starlet, who just so happens to be the object of Lemmy's affection.  Together, Lemmy and Jodie must stand against the seemingly insurmountable power of the Heidelberg Handlebar Number Seven and save the United States from being taken over by the dastardly mastermind.

This book is a perfect lighthearted silly summer read.  It's ridiculous in the best way possible.  Although after reading it, you just may want your very own Fake Mustache.
