Finding Kind Is Coming To Your School

Thumbnail image for Finding Kind.jpgHas anyone ever started a rumor about you? Have you felt left out of a group? Have you seen this happen to someone else? Or, have you done this to someone else? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you must see Finding Kind.

Molly Thompson and Lauren Parsekian traveled cross-country listening to teenage girls talk about their experience with emotional bullying. The result is a compilation of their personal stories in Finding Kind, a documentary that has raised awareness of the devastating effects of bullying, rumors, exclusion and meanness.

Catch one of the local showings this winter:

Each screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers. The screenings are sponsored and made possible by donations from the PTSA's of BLMS, PCMS, Maywood, PLMS, IMS, Skyline  High School, Liberty High School Issaquah High School, the PTSA Council and the Issaquah Schools Foundation.

Learn more about the film and watch a trailer on the film's official site.

Hunger Games: The Movie

Hey Hunger Games.jpegHunger Games fans: did you know that Gary Ross, the director of the Hunger Games movie was just interviewed in the January 14 issue of Entertainment Weekly? Check it out for details about the film's rating and Ross' attitude about preserving the "heart" of the story. Interestingly enough, he used to be the Los Angeles library commissioner and thinks that "some of the greatest literature is YA," which is nice to hear.

Unfortunately, the article doesn't cover what everyone is dying to know: who is going to play Katniss?(!?!) And it might be awhile. In the meantime, you can watch **gorey** casting clips here

As we wait for the release of the film, what are your non-negotiables when adapting the Hunger Games into a film? What do you think will be lost in the translation to film? Gained? Do you have your own ideas about casting? What moments of the story do you think are most important to get right in the movie?

The April 2009 (20th anniversary!!), issue of Teen Ink arrived at the Issaquah Library about an hour ago with the headline "Edward Cullen: Chivalrous or Chauvinist?" I've been following Twilight news and criticism but I believe this is the first time I've heard the argument that "Edward and Bella are a modern Adam and Eve." Want to know more? Find Teen Ink shelved with magazines and zines in the Teen Section. Go to page 14 of the April 2009 issue. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and be sure to stop by the library for
