The Time-Traveling Fashionista: At the Palace of Marie Antoinette by Bianca Turetsky
This novel is not in the KCLS catalog and will be published September 2012.
Twelve year old Louise Lambert is at that awkward stage in her life, her interests are different then her best friend and they have less and less in common. Louise loves vintage clothes and searching for used items at the local thrift store, much to her mother's dismay.
The second book in the series, Louise has received another by-invitation-only to the Time-Traveling Fashionista's vintage clothes sale. While at the shop Louise can't resist stepping into an antique gown and finds herself transported back to the court of a teenaged Marie Antoinette.
Louise had just been studying this time period at school in preparation for the big class trip to Paris, and when she realizes where she is she tries to point out the error or the queen's ways with no success.
A fun look back to another time, the Time-Traveling Fashionista doesn't have any stand out qualities to warrant a Newbery nod. However, for budding fashion lovers this will give them some context for what it was like when their vintage duds were first worn.
