Connecting Children to Nature STARS Program

The Newport Way Library will be hosting a STARS program on October 4th at 6:30pm in the Newport Way Library meeting room, led by instructor Katy Keehn.  This program will provide 2
hours STAR Credit in Child Growth & Development and Curriculum & Learning Environment and focuses on connecting children to nature. 

Research shows that children who have regular experiences in nature are better able to develop physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially. Through engaging discussion and hands-on experiences, this workshop will explore the lasting effect nature has in facilitating a child's overall development. Abundant resources will be provided for creating outdoor spaces where nature is a joyful part of a child's daily play and learning. Please Join us!  Register online to attend this program.

If you are bringing in a Nook, and have a laptop you can connect it to, please bring that and your nook cable with you so we can get you downloading.

If you don't have an eReader yet, we will have several different types on hand for you to test drive. Our kit includes Kindle Fire, Nook Color, iPad and more.

Study Zone at Newport Way

Newport Way is offering Study Zone Thursdays 3-5 beginning September 13th. Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for sudyzonelogo.jpgThe Study Zone is a great place for students to study, do homework and get help with their questions. Volunteer tutors provide free homework help. Students can find help in all subject areas, including Math, Science and English questions.

 

The program is open to all students grades K-12. Study Zone sessions are designed for a group setting; each tutor works with 1-5 students in a group setting. Study Zone tutors are not able to provide intensive, private one-to-one tutoring.

How do students join Study Zone?
There is no need to sign up in advance, just drop in any time during Study Zone hour. Students are not required to register or provide personal information to participate in Study Zone.  Can't make it into the library?  Check out Study Zone Online!
